45,010 electric cars were newly registered in Switzerland from January to September 2026, 26.9% more than in the same period last year. These are the ten most popular models.
The Tesla Model Y stays in first place and, after a strong September (1,679 new registrations in that month alone), is now around 20% ahead of the same period last year (2025: 3,363 vehicles in the same period). Right behind it are two Škoda models: the Elroq and Enyaq together reach 5,033 new registrations, more than the front-runner alone, and both have grown clearly compared with 2025 (Elroq +34%, Enyaq +40%).
Overall, the electric car market is growing strongly in 2026 (+26.9% in registrations, and according to auto-schweiz, purely electric vehicles reached a market share of 35.7% of all new registrations in September alone), but the growth is now distributed differently: several of the top 10 models lose ground compared with last year, while others grow strongly. Also striking is the appearance of Chinese brands such as BYD (Sealion 7 with 717 vehicles) outside the top 10, a trend that is becoming more pronounced in 2026.
